NYMR's Bridge 27

For those members who follow things/events to do with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here is a YouTube feature about the replacement Bridge 27 being delivered by rail to Grosmont. The bridge itself was built by Cleveland Bridge, who "test" assembled it at their factory before dismantling it again and transferring it "Ikea Flat pack" style to a local rail yard on Teesside to be moved on to the Moors.

Thank you very much.
It must be much easier doing the positioning using the 08 than it was using steam shunters the last time this bridge was replaced.
I must check the dates and see what they might have been!

As an unexpected extra, Bridge 8 at Pickering is being replaced this winter too, with help from Volker. There were known age related problems with the Bridge as it was like all the bridges being monitored. The plan being to replace it in a year or two's time, unfortunately it was discovered whilst doing the preparatory work for the carriage shed that Bridge 8 had deteriorated faster than expected :( . Leading to it's replacement sooner rather than later.......

SOmething vaguely sticks in my mind that the Bridge at Goathland was replaced in NER times, circa 1900-1910?

Thanks, Paul.

I think 1908 - can't remember the source for that offhand, but will check.

OK here goes folks another shorty from YouTube on Bridge 27. You'll note that the track will need slewing in order to line up with the new span.

You're welcome STAFFORDA4. They have just over a month to go before the new season starts on the 6th of April a Monday. As well as re-instating the track over Bridge 27 they have to replace Bridge 8 at Pickering too. The old bridge has been removed I've been lead to believe and the remaining Volker crane that was isolated on the south side of Bridge 27 is to be used to help instal the new Bridge 8.

Thankfully work on both bridges has been successfully completed, with a few minor finishing off/fettling bits and bobs needed to be finalised. Granted the "long siding" still needs relaying over Bridge 8 in Pickering, though that's down to associated work to do with the new carriage shed/facilities in Pickering. The running line is in place and being used with the pandemic related Pickering-Levisham shuttles that are being operated from the South end of the Moors. Both lines over Bridge 27 are in use with the Grosmont Goathland/MP18 shuttle at the Northern end of the line, with some "handsignalling" over it, whilst the S & T guys finish off rewiring the signaling if it hasn't already been finished.......
