If it wasn't for the coronavirus outbreak there can be no doubt that there would have been more "failed" franchises over and above the East Coast and Northern, nobody really knows what is going to happen after this dreadful time is over other than the original franchises are almost certainly not going to come back and either outright nationalisation (unlikely) or new concession agreements similar to London Overground and Merseyrail probably will come about.
