Personally from a 'looks angle' I like steam locos with Belpaire fireboxes which were mainly ex GWR, ex LMS along with a mixture of ex SR locos and the B.R. Standards but having said that I still like the look of the ex LNER pacfics including the Peppercorn A1s & A2s and also the V2s as well which to my mind still have a modern look about them especially where the firebox meets the cab.

I did hear a story that whenever a new fireman got on the loco, he was told this and shovelled for all his worth. Whst he didnt know was the driver or fireman had rigged up a rope from the cab to pull when they thought his efforts warranted it!!
