I can provide some information about the summer Saturdays only Saltburn - Glasgow train.
In the summer of 1961 for example the train ran between 5th July and 16th August. It left Saltburn at 9.7 am and ran via Hartlepool and Sunderland to Newcastle, arriving at 11.25am. The train continued to Glasgow arriving at 3.52 pm. A train left Glasgow in the opposite direction at 3.39 pm, arriving at Newcastle at 7.32 pm and finally reaching Saltburn at 9.51 pm. I think 1962 was the last summer it ran.

In later years Thornaby B1s worked the train between Saltburn and Edinburgh. Examples are 61220 (9/7/60), 61257 (6/8/60), 61034 (8/7/61 & 15/7/61), 61257 (21/7/62) and 61218 (28/7/62). In the return direction Tyneside based V2s or B1s were usually used e.g. 61224 (6/8/60).

The stock used in 1960 was BSK, 6SK, CK, BCK (9).

you may wish to know that the first glasgow to teesside trains ran in summer 1948, with saltburn as a termination point and a departure point from summer 1951.

I'm on that one - first railway trip to Saltburn since leaving the northeast nearly 30 years ago.
It's into Saltburn at 1404 and out again at 1415 - I presume the platform lines are too short for the train so it has to be in and out between normal services (back into York at 1552)

Back on the site after a long absence.......

I'm wondering whether anybody has photographs (or whether anybody has ever seen photographs......) of the line coming out of the original Redcar station towards Warrenby? The line and station both closed in 1861 when the Saltburn Extension was put in so photos would certainly be very rare, albeit not impossible? The outside of the old station, which wasn't fully redeveloped until the 1960s, features in many postcard scenes taken before WW2, but I've never yet seen anything station-side.

Does anyone have any records of the Lourdes specials that, I understand from a mate, called at Middlesbrough in the early 60s ?
He tells me of at least one hauled by an A3 with Southern Region stock.Thanks. Eric

A3 60046 Diamond Jubilee was noted working an Saltburn -York ECS train of Southern stock (all green) during 1960 but I don't know any other details.

I have seen shots from them at Saltburn of the shed area, nothing of the excursion platform

not much luck so far but a new photo I've just seen of the hotel platform appears in a book called Steam Around Middlesbrough by Mike Hitches
