Thanks Andrew, that drawing looks good. It is for a F1, and it’s the F2 I want to build (for the Ally Pally shuttle), however, I believe they’re very similar apart from a longer bunker on the F2, so it’s a good basis.

EN, I had considered the N5, but I’m inclined to start hacking the LYR tank, and may add bits from the N5 as required (particularly the bunker).

Very minor detail differences between the F1 and F2 - straight bunker with curving coal rails (F2) compared to curving bunker and straight coal rails (F1); slightly higher pitched boiler (not really noticeable in OO).

I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

I’ve bitten the bucket and hacked into a Baccy 2-4-2T. It involved more than I thought at first glance, but I attach some photos of my progress to date. I’m trying to recreate E7111 as she was in 1950 on the Ally Pally shuttle. The picture on p47 of Yeadon and picture 26 in the Middleton Press book on the Ally Pally branch are my main references. Work so far has been:
Lengthen frames by 7mm.
Lengthen cab roof by 4mm.
Lengthen bunker by 3mm
Cut off coal rails and replace with filled in coal rails to suit new bunker size
Fit Belapir firebox
Fill and drill out spectacle windows at front to suit different position of firebox
Replace handrails with ones that curve round front of smokebox (does anyone have a tip on doing this neatly?!)
Fit GCR style smokebox door dart
Fit steps on front of side tanks

Remaining job are:
Fit LNER flowerpot chimney (any advice welcome for next source of this)
Fit Safety valves. From the photos these look like Ramsbottom valves with the cover removed. Again, anyone know where I can get one of these?
Then lots of sanding and adding rivet detail.
The cab is not quite right as it should be flush with the sides. I’m not really sure how to tackle this. I may try a SE fine cast N5 cab, but would welcome any other suggestions.

The chassis is almost correct. I think the rear pony should be 1mm closer to the coupled wheels, but I’m going to ignore that (sorry to those whom this will offend!)

Any comments on my progress to date would be welcome.

Many thanks to Andrew and Graeme for the drawings they sent which both really helped. Graeme’s F2 side drawing was my main reference, but that was only side on, so Andrew’s F1 drawings were very useful for front and rear views.

The old Millholme N5 chimney was very good and I think this is the kit SE Finecast upgraded as their N5? I got several from Millholme years ago and have used them on a C13, with others stored for another C13 and a rebuild of a C13 to a C14.

Anyway I would try SEF for the chimney and also the safety valve.

I've just bought a pair of these (late to the party!) to hopefully easily motorise a plastic scratchbuild and a Cotswold or Sutherland kit. If the chassis can be easily transplanted, that is- otherwise I'll be going down the conversion route.
