LNER Vehicle control codes

Post by Tanya »

Another one from the LMS group.
It is often claimed that the BR codes for carriages are simply a carbon copy of the LNER ones.
Having compared the ones from the 1939 LNER book -

With the BR ones I find not one code to be the same. But did the LNER change codes post 1939?

Correction to the previous; I have found one correspondence between the LNER 1939 book and the 1949 RE book - CO: composite open.
A source for this claim is Michael Harris' LNER Carriages. At the back. He gives CK as corridor composite, but as you will see if you look at my scan of the 1939 LNER book, at that time a CK was a four wheeled covered carriage truck on the LNER.
Was Michael Harris taken in by an enthusiasts myth, or did the LNER undertake a wholesale revision of its codes?
