GER coach ID needed
Evening all
Can anyone confirm the details of the GER restaurant coach?
I have a clear picture of one side, is this the other? Also can these two NPCS's be identified? The above two pictures are from my JD manns aspects of East Anglian steam series of books
Thanks in advance
Scott

Sorry, can't assist as regards the GER vehicle, but both of the 2 lower photographs appear to be of LMS 50' gangwayed full brakes, the upper one being a wood panelled vehicle to Diag. 1778, the lower a Stanier period vehicle to Diag. 1854, judging by its horizontal beading strips.
Re: GER coach ID needed
Thanks John for the ID on the lower two vehicles.

I can't see the number on the RF - is it legible? You have to be careful with these, the LNER rebuilt most of them and they're what I gather US modellers call an 'NTA' class - No Two Alike. There are a few photos about if you can pin down which vehicle it is.

Re: GER coach ID needed
The GER coach one of either D.12 RFO numbers 686 & 687 or D.18 RTO numbers 6106 & 6107 (these numbers have the LNER '6' prefix)
Re: GER coach ID needed
There are two lavatories at the far end of the GE restaurant car, whether the Third class or First class versions, the seating is in six bays, of two open saloons. 36 seats in the First and 48 in the Third class diagram.
(Diagram previously attached not required by OP.)
The photo in the OP is of the Third Class Restaurant Open.

As mentioned in my first post on this subject this is a drawing which I have guesstimated may help with the dia of restaurant car. Would like to know what the other side looked like
I've based the dwg on a 50ft chassis the caption in J D Manns aspect of East Anglian steam says it's a restaurant car, also this wording can just be made out under the 4 pane and 2 pane "dining" or possible "kitchen" windows next to the single door. There are definitely no vertical ribs that run along the bottom waist band. The last 4 windows near the double doors look like a corridor. Thanks

The RCTS photo archive has the BR number of the GER restaurant car as E6108E.
Re: GER coach ID needed
Possibly LNER Code 6017.
Certainly nothing to do with the original photo posted.

Re: GER coach ID needed
I know, my apologies I had trouble uploading due to the size restrictions on this site. I originally thought it may of been the other side I was after, I sketched both sides on a bit of paper and things didn't look right. So I've elaborated as in the post above.
Excuse my daftness, I thought I was on to something......now apparently not.

There is a photo of the kitchen side of the GE Restaurant First carriage you were wanting in the May 1997 issue of BackTrack, in a article on LNER Restaurant Cars by Clive Carter. It is a BR period photo of E669E and shows alterations made by the LNER to these cars. 669 is one of the code 6017 types.

Re: GER coach ID needed
669 was unique. It was originally built in 1913 with a vestibule at the outer end of the saloon with a single lavatory on the kitchen side. at some time late the vestibule was replaced with two single seats with tables. The diagram shows that the lav window was replaced by one that matched the one on the corridor side.
Re: GER coach ID needed
Unique in what way?
I have information that several of the GER RF carriages were altered in the way you suggest Bill.
Mr Wealleans' comment early in this thread is apposite.

Thanks chaps for the info
I have Nick Camplings book vol 1 & 3 (peter tatlow)
What I'm after is a good source of drawings with GER stock.
Isinglass does not appear to many if at all and the GER society has very basic diagrams.
Does anyone know where my next stop should be? NRM possibly??
Thanks in advance
