C1 No 2831

Post by Iron Duke »

Can anyone suggest a good source for obtaining information about the withdrawal on No 2831 in late 1946?
A couple of websites show the loco in the works for one day on 12/10/1946 but no obvious work seems to have been carried out.

Many thanks in anticipation - Iron Duke

Yeadon's Register has 2831 as condemned on 16/11/1946 and subsequently cut up at Doncaster. The RCTS Green book just gives 11/1946.

Thanks for your reply John. I do not have a copy, but would Yeadon's Register make reference to 2831's livery at the time of withdrawal?

Many thanks - Iron Duke

I am pretty sure that by 1946 2831 would have been black unlined with yellow gill sans characters. None of the remaining C1s carried any other livery after WW2 except No 251.
