When visiting the Tanfield Railway on Sunday I got carried away (as I usually do when I visit there) by the range of un-restored rolling stock. This is not that there is not also some very impressive restored stock to see as well!
This particular van caught my attention. I haven't yet looked it up in Tatlow, but I can do so and have larger pictures if anyone is interested.

Re: 12 ton Fruit Van at Tanfield
Have consulted Mr Tatlow's 'LNER Wagons' Vol.4A.
This vehicle is to Diagram 152, and is therefore 8' wide.
I would like to visit it again and study the underframe and running gear some more.
(We'll it takes all sorts.........!)

It was newly painted when I saw it in 1975(?)

Re: 12 ton Fruit Van at Tanfield
Thank you.
After forty three years in the open it doesn't look too bad!
Why was it painted gray do you suppose?
Being a fitted vehicle surely the LNER colour would have been bauxite?
Perhaps this is colliery/NCB appearance?

As it and the adjacent van have some ironwork picked out in black, I suspect little more than somebody thought it looked nice, or that's the paint they had
