Can anyone help with the ID of Loco type and numbers please?
I can ID Snowploughs but not locos.
I think one of the engines is B1 1015 Duiker but probably wrong.
All taken in the 1947 snow storms that blanketted the Yorkshire region.

G'Day Gents

But whats behind the J39 ?? It looks like a Riddles 2-8-0 or one of those American S160's :? could be wrong though.

1947 was the year of the big freeze when the line across Stainmore was closed for some time. The locos show in the photos are B1 1015 "Duiker", J39 with WD 2-8-0 behind, whilst the last two are the same J25. 50C has probably got the numbers correct. All have the LNER renumbering but are of course pre nationalisation.
The B1 would be very young at that time and would be in LNER green. It certainly looks very shiny!

Thanks for the replies.
I could see the numbers but the site I normally use to ID type came up with "Not Known"
Also looking at the Locos section on here there doesn't seem to be a link to earlier numbers.

Bryan early and late LNER numbers are a minefield. when the LNER formed the only railway to keep their original Numbers was the NER with the other constituents adding a certain sum to their own numbers to derive a unique LNER number. For instance if you add 3000 to the well known loco from the GNR's original number we get 4472.
What made it more interesting was the LNER new builds took over vacant numbers in the series leading to classes with numbers all over the place this all changed with the 1946 sensible renumbering scheme in which the locos were given a class numbering with consecutive numbers.
The reuse of numbers was inherited from the NER.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Love those photos at Fyling Hall. Weren't J39s usually barred from the Whitby-Scarborough line though?

Would anyone know which ploughs were in use there?

Thanks

After a lot of searching, I believe that the ploughing operation details on the Scarborough & Whitby are as follows. Confirmation or correction would be appreciated.

Scarborough end
Plough 22/900576
J39 4818
J24 5615
Plough 21/900575
Whitby end
