Kings Cross layout

Post by Mickey »

I presume some of you guys have already seen this layout based on Kings Cross which looks very good to me although some of the track work isn't correct but that's just a minor issue.

Surely that is the Gainsborough club O gauge layout; been around for yonks?

Yes it is 65447. Personally I would have and modelled it circa 1969/70 my era.

Personally, and purely as an onlooker with no modelling skills and in no way denigrating the work of putting that together, it all looks so 'beige'. Where's the soot, where's the grunge?

Seeing as they started building it in Coronation year (1953) it was contemporary for the time and, if you look at other photographs in the Gallery, there are early and late BR steam locomotives, green 'Deltics', DMUs and 'Blue Spot' fish vans as well as Apple Green 'Atlantics' and 6-wheel carriages...

You are always welcome to build your own version

I like layouts that are dedicated to a certain period in time so if I had a layout of Kings Cross I would have it as of circa 1970-71 which would include-

Deltics
Brush 2s & 4s
EE type 4s
HS4000 Kestrel
Mk1 & Mk2 coaches
Inner suburban 'block ender' coaches
Craven units
Rolls Royce units
GUVs
Sleeping cars

On the whole when it comes to layouts I usually prefer non-scenery layouts that are just a baseboard, track, locos & rolling stock and leave the rest to my imagination.
