Before the MOSI website became part of the Science Museum one, it had quite a good image search facility. Based on that I think there are 2 copies of the 9Q GA. The one I have is quite indistinct, (ordered as a CD years ago) but there was also another shown in the old MOSI online catalogue which was clearer. It might be worth checking if there are really 2 digitised and asking for the less faded of the two if that is the case. From memory they had the same reference no.

If MOSI don't have a 9P GA try the NRM OPC microfilm list. There is at least a pipe and rod drawing in that list.

The one I have purchased appears to be in full colour and shows quite a lot of detail.

UPDATE: it has been e-mailed to me, and is quite stunningly clear. Even the handwritten measurements are legible.

Thanks for that tip. I shall have a look there.

EDIT: found some:

- Card no: 4171 - Weight diagram for B3
- Card no: 12394 - pipe & rod for Class 9Q/B7
- Card no. 13119 - a GA of the 1917 9P.

I wonder how 10411 and 13119 GAs differ? Sadly too far away from York to pop in for a quick check of the microfilm cards.

Suspect 13119 is for the prototype build with the simple crescent cabside, whilst 10411 might be for the side-window cab. Only way to find out is to order both and find out.....!

I would say the other way around, lower numbers should be earlier.

Everything I could etch from below the footplate, ie frames, footplate, inner frames, valences, steps buffer beams and brakes, but not the brake cylinder, buffers or scoop.

Should be but not necessarily so, as the GWR drawings for example in that list are all over the place and some of the lower numbers are for quite late designs.

With the bare printed tender shell, that would dovetail quite nicely with the philosophy of the engine portion, i.e. moulded upperworks, and etchings for everything else.

Tender sounds good in principle.

Regarding those loco drawings, the 9P as printed in Johnson's book, with side window cab, aroused my curiosity as the top rear corner of the cab side sheet seemed to me to be not quite the same as those seen in good photographs. Something to watch out for and to double check....

By contrast, the B7 drawing of that section reflects the B3 photos much more closely.

I've stuck in an order to Brassmasters for the inside motion bits (see their website diagram) to play about with. In for a penny, in for a pound.

In fact, being interested in the B7 kit too, I'd be good for two tenders, assuming they ran behind both classes?

Hello James: Although he is otherwise occupied at present I have taken steps to draw latest developments on this thread to the attention of Graham Nicholas, who handles the loco kit orders, so your request should receive attention in due course.

As I'm not in a position to start a test build of the etch yet, I may have the luxury of seeing Bill's version in full before any final decision.
