Good morning all from sunny Surrey
I have started building a Coronation set from Triang Thompson coaches, using the method that LNER-Tom used on RMWEB.
I have only built one side so far, but am planning ahead for the painting.
I am wondering if the coach ends are painted in two tone blue like the sides, or a single shade.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Coronation coach end colour
A good question!
With the twins being so closely-coupled and with the sheet fairings hung between them it's very hard to tell. It's clear from photographs that the leading Brake End had the two-tone paint job wrapped around the outer end, and that the sheet fairings were also finished in the two-tone on the external face.
There's a photograph on p73 of Streamlined Steam, A J Mullay, David & Charles, of the down working exiting Gas Works tunnel on a curve. With the gap between carriages opened up, it strongly suggests that the two-tone scheme was wrapped around the inner ends of the twin-sets, so it's likely that all the carriages were similarly finished.
Regrettably what is not clear is whether the upper band, above the light blue, was finished in the darker blue or the silver roof colour.
Ah!.... just looked in Michael Harris' LNER Carriages (Atlantic edition) and he states on p67 that the two blue colours were continued around the ends.

Re: Coronation coach end colour
From what I've been able to work out for my own twin coach, the side livery continued on around the brake ends, at a guess (and this is based on pictures of the sets being built) it also continued around the corridor connections between coaches and the inner ends - very nice picture of one of the middle bogie pivots being demonstrated shows the darker blue being carried around. With the sets being closely coupled and fitted with the rubber fairings, I can only imagine as to whether the covered ends were regularly washed, the brake ends must have been as they would have been exposed each time the train reached a terminus and the loco and observation car were turned.

Anything weird or unusual will catch my interest, be it an express or locomotive
I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

Am doing a mailcoach coronation set at the mo and I found a photo that shows the 2 tone blue going round the ends as well as the silver lining. Actually looking now it was a west riding ltd but I believe they were identical. https://www.ssplprints.com/image/372445 ... train-lner

I would point out that is the outer Brake End, of which the livery application is in no doubt...Phil Brighton wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 7:12 pm Am doing a mailcoach coronation set at the mo and I found a photo that shows the 2 tone blue going round the ends as well as the silver lining.
