ECJS roof Destination boards

Post by Trestrol »

Roof mounted destination boards on LNER carriages were white with black lettering. Does anybody know what background colour ECJS ones were. I have had suggestions of red oxide, maroon or scumbulled as there are only black and white photos it’s not easy to tell. There is no mention in any books I can find so I am a bit stuck. Did they follow GNR practice or where they different.

On the carriage roofs in the painting 'Going North' (in the NRM and to be found on-line), and on contemporary LPC coloured postcards showing ECJS stock, the destination boards are shown as bright red.
