Peppercorn A1 numberplate

Post by bittern19 »

I am building a 7mm Peppercorn A1, and would like it to have "lower" smokebox numberplate and BR blue livery. Which locomotives (if any) had this combination?

Sorry Bittern but I’m very doubtful this combination ever existed until 60163 came along.
I’m open to being proved wrong but the front number plates were lowered from 1956 onwards and from memory A1s in blue were on the way out around 1951 (not that I personally can recall it you understand; I was born August 51)

Good luck

Last to go into works to have its blue painted over was 60160 in February 1953. Lowering the smokebox number plate commenced October 1954.

One can of course do what one likes with ones models, but another trap for the unwary is the Gil Sans and Modified Gill Sans smokebox numberplate numerals

Thanks to both of you. Looking through the available evidence I am amazed how short a life some of them spent in blue livery (12 months or thereabouts) which suggests they were called back to Works just for a repaint. What a waste of resources!
