The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019

The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019

The 00 Wishlist Poll runs from 14 October to 2 November at: www.rmweb.co.uk

The Poll provides railway modellers and collectors with an easy and informed way of indicating to makers and commissioners of 00 ready-to-run models which models they would realistically buy if made at some time in the future from all-new tooling (excluding models since 1 January 2005).

Voting covers steam, diesel and electric locos; DMUs; EMUs; passenger and non-passenger-carrying coaching stock; freight and departmental stock. The Industrial and Underground categories have gone, enabling many new items of ‘core content’. Pollsters can now make suggestions for re-makes of some items made since 2005.

The Poll has an accompanying Guide which is particularly useful for checking such as the build dates of the various BR Mk1 catering vehicles, or whether one particular diesel shunter will suit your needs better than others.

The Locos: LNER & Constituents category lists 70 steam locos; as the category is running at ‘maximum permitted load’, we only have one completely new item for you – the LNER Q1/1 & Q1/2 (69925-69937).

In Coaches: LNER & Constituents, we have three new items: Gresley 61ft 6in General Service Stock; Gresley Restaurant Pantry Third; and Gresley Buffet Car (Diag.167).

In Non-passenger-carrying Coaching Stock, we have new the LNER 6-wheel Milk Tank Truck and Dyson Road Milk Trailer (Diags.183 & 295).

We hope you will enjoy the voting! If you need any help, please email The 00 Poll Team at: thepollteam@gmail.com

There should be a "Banner" advert at the top of the opening page . Otherwise a search should find the thread.

All done, LNER J21, BR Std 2MT 2MT-T, and 3MT here we go!

Paul.

Edit, when you see the list, taking note of how many currently available products there are, as well as those which have tipped over the 2005 threshold chosen but are still pretty impressive (like the rebuilt MN for example). It staggers me 1. just how many models have not yet been done, and 2. why any manufacturer is ever going to have to duplicate the products offered by another (because obviously that will never happen #sarcasmbomb )

Hello Paul

Many thanks for voting and we hope you found it easy and enjoyable.

A number of models have been made in recent years that might be called 'improved' - hence, our list of what has been announced since the 2018 Results is a little shorter than usual.

A new model might 'duplicate' an old one, but the newer will almost certainly be far more detailed and have provision for DCC. And it will probably be a bit more expensive. Although we have no absolute proof (as that data is privy to makers), it seems that a number are making newer models to satisfy demand. Our new category 21 bears that out as you will see in the Results (which are due out in November).

Hello manna

As noted in my post above, the link takes voters directly to The Poll Q&A. Scrolling down will take them to the voting link - which seems pretty unmissable to us. I have just tried finding it on my very small mobile phone screen and it is unmissable there, too.

I will probably get a load of stick for saying this but to be completely honest, I think these wishlist polls are a total waste of time.

I say this because every year we are asked the same question of what models we would like to see, we all give our answers and everything else but very rarely see the appearance of any of the models we would like to see introduced.

Hello Mersey508138

You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion about any wishlist, but may I clarify a point you made?

Although The Poll content might appear to be the same each year, that is partly due to the consistent style we use. We have deleted the 18 items which have been announced that were listed (and three more will come off 2020 as they have been announced after we closed for press). We have deleted the Industrial and Underground categories as they weren't fitting with our 'core content'.

As a result of the above, we have listed 112 new items this year.

I have appended an extract from the Q&A.

Brian Macdermott (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)

Does The Poll Team expect ‘the top items’ to be made?

We would ask voters to appreciate that manufacturers lay plans anything up to three years or more in advance and have to continually balance requests against their current models and proposed portfolios – as well as those of their competitors. To us, it’s a hobby; to them, it’s a commercial decision.

Thank you Brian,

Yes the poll is very simple to use, thank you for arranging it.

Yes I fully understand the "updating" replacement of models, and its a conversation for another place, its just interesting to note how many models are still as yet un-tooled at all from the list.

Paul.

Hello Paul

Many thanks for the feedback.

A little more data for you...

Since 2012, we have seen 150+ items announced from what we have listed, and about 50 of those were from The Top 50. Those deleted items will have been replaced by new items each year. We are confident that we could list 30,000+ items - but that would make The Poll unwieldy.

Thank you Brian,

100% vote-to-manufacturing from the top 50 is certainly an impressive hit rate (or did you mean 50 suggestions from the cumulative top 50's since 2012), lets hope the J21, BR Std 2MT 2MT-T, and 3MT all end up in the top 50!

Paul.

Hello Paul

Indeed, they were from the relevant years - not all in one year.

The Standards have been in The Top 50 each year since 2012 (except 2017 when we didn't run). The J21 has been High Polling since 2015.
