Farringdon Goods Operations

Post by Drummond »

Might anyone have any thoughts about how goods trains were received at Farringdon Goods in steam days ?
The crossovers into the goods yard are very close to the platforms leaving little space in the sidings to receive trains. There is of course a long head-shunt parallel to the descending Widened Lines tracks. Any thoughts would be gratefully received. I have the GNR Society's excellent booklet but this has little to say on operations. Obviously within the depot movements were by capstan and horse (I assume). It is just how trains got in and out
that interests me. Many thanks
Jonathan
