Post by Bryan »

Following some talk elsewhere re traversers, I thought I would see if anyone can recognise this one.
My first photo upload so see if it works ok.

FF
first to answer your query.
A traverser is a device to move stock sideways between lines of track at a fixed spot.
York Carriage works used to have 4 top move coaches from road to road at the workshop ends.
Dare I say it but Swindon had one that was often seen in photos as well.

You were close with your answer but not quite there.
York Wagon Works on the 1st October this year.
Now closed and anything left in there is being got rid of.
The last 3 Ballast distribution wagons being worked on have just been left sat on blocks and tools downed were the last men in left them.

I was in there as part of an official working party recovering bits and pieces for use on the NYMR

A further scene inside the works.
This wagon and 2 others are as the last workers to leave left them.
Will they be recovered or not?
Part of the MOBC system.
