Accidents on the line.
My G.Grandfather who worked for the GNR (pre LNER) is supposed to have died in an accident on the line. He was a platelayer and died between Jan 1875 & Apr 1881.
He was NEHEMIAH (HENRY) COOK and the accident is believed to have been near GODMANCHESTER.
Can any of you 'buffs' help me with information ?
Father & grandfather worked at HORNSEY, N.LONDON station.

Re: accidents on the line
Just seen this whilst trawling the site.
If you can give nme full details of your grandfathers D.O.B. and full name plus info on wife or kids I might be able to find the info you require on "ANCESTRY.CO.UK"
May take a while though

Thanks to the NERA magazine, here is another site to try -
http://www.blacksheepindex.co.uk
I have only had a quick look, but there is a Henry Cook, Guard GNR mentioned involved in an accident at Peterborough 1878. 'Fraid it will cost you to get the details from them.

Re: accidents on the line
Although I can't help with your original query re your Great Grandfather, I was interested to see that your family had connections with Hornsey.
Although you specifically mention the station, could your father have been a driver at Hornsey Loco Depot?
I ask this as I sometimes fired to a Driver E. (Ted) Cook around 60 years ago. I'm sure that we had one other Driver Cook at that time, but I shall have to get my notes out to check .
It's a bit of a long shot, but who knows?
