LNER Explosives Label

Post by 2562 »

I found this label amongst a pile of papers that I've been sorting through.

Although it's glossy on the printed side, I find it hard to believe that a card attached to a moving wagon through all weathers, would survive for very long!
Interesting advice as regards the flammable liquid and gas wagons. Surely this would be obvious?

It's only for one use on one train on one day and they were held onto the wagons by a heavy sprung clip under the solebar. It would be the Guard's job to make sure the labels were OK every time he checked the train, plus of course (I think) gunpowder would only be carried in purpose built gunpowder vans - copper lined I think.
