Re: New Build G5
The G5 boiler looks very good. Will have to save my pennies to travel back to the UK when finished to see it in action.

Re: New Build G5
Sorry guys, but this isn't the G5's boiler. It is off an industrial loco at a guess. The G5's boiler has a welded shell and the one in the photo is riveted. The dome and chimney aren't tall enough and the smokebox is the wrong shape. It also has a boiler feed bush on the side and the G5 does not. Check against the photos on the G5 Co website and its very obviously a different boiler.
I'm sure someone can tell us which loco it belongs to.

Re: New Build G5
Those Flickr photos are nothing to do with the G5 as far as I can tell, they are of the Weardale Railway's RSH No. 40's boiler and ashpan. I think the pace of work on the G5 has slowed a lot since the cost of it doubled and they have to find more shareholders.

Re: New Build G5
Ay up!
It certainly isn't a new boiler, I can tell you that. There's quite a lot of rust on the rear of the firebox, too much for a new boiler. And that ashpan? Could it be that this is the boiler that will be used on the G5?

Re: New Build G5
The third photo in the series showing the boiler being lifted from No. 40's frames (and captioned as such) is the real giveaway!
Re: New Build G5
The ashpan on a G5 is flat along the bottom with front and rear damper flaps. And that ashpan?
I have raked out too many G5 ashpans at Botanic to be unsure. Certainly, the one in the photo does not appear to be even NER.
