Y1 Sentinel 68153

Post by Rlangham »

Does anyone have any up to date information about the Middleton Railways Sentinel 68153? She's one of my favourite locomotives (much prefer the little ones) and i've seen her a couple of times at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in one of the sheds. Would be great to see her operational in the not too distant future.

There are some photos on the Y1 page:

that I took during my visit in August 2005. The Middleton was a mess at the time due to all the building work and was officially closed to visitors (we got a special tour from their historian, Sheila Bye). Should be good when they've finished - they'll have lots more cover for stock, and a decent visitor's centre.

The boiler was away - to the K&ESR I think, for overhaul/repairs. Sounded like it was low priority "when they have the time" kind of thing.
The rest of the locomotive was in pieces which was good for us because we could see all the bits :-)
The body was off and looked like a shed. The frame was separate, so it resembled the Y7's except instead of pistons, there were axle gears.
They also had the firebox, and the "engine" unit (cylinders and valves). The engine looked to be in good nick and being looked after.

Does anyone have any photos of the Y1 which worked in York Engineer's Yard? 45/68152/Dept53 I believe
I saw its shed, but the only locos I saw in the yard were J25s.
