I have been to Barkston many times (late 50's to 70's) in the past but cannot remember this signal, was it changed at some point?

I have tried to understand the point of having the up signal mounted on the down signal gantry like that. Unless it is protecting a crossover behind the camera then I do not see the point, as there was a bracket signal just before the junction where the up loop/siding joined the up main.
That other signal can only be 100 yards back, but maybe there were sighting problems - I don't know.
