O Gauge LNER Pacifics
Hi Everyone
About 12 years ago I built the hachette O Gauge flying scotsman locomotive although I have numbered as a different loco in the dark green livery.
Though I am not sure when it will happen yet, I want to be able to build a full single track with potential for doubling further on in time maybe with a B1 or possibly a tank loco.
My question relating to this is what is the minimum radius for the pacific to traverse without derailments so that I can woutkout how many track pieces eould be needed to make a full end of the circuit ?
Also if I may, I would be adding crossovers between the 2 tracks so would a turnout and possible double slip ( if available ) ned to be isolated from each other to prevent power feed problems ?.
I look forward to any replies given as I need to get as much information as is possible before I start the project and msny thanks in advance and I wish you all Happy Christmas.

Re: O Gauge LNER Pacifics
I don't know about the Hatchette model specifically, but when I was vaguely planning a garden layout, I was thinking 6ft radius to allow for Pacifics and/or a P2. My reasoning was that a garden layout would allow the running of large locos like this and full length trains, so it should be scaled to allow for that.
For various reasons, I shelved the idea as impractical with that garden. A folded dumb-bell might have worked. A nice loop would have required a wheelbarrow crossing. etc
So far my largest O, would be an 0-6-0 Bouch Long Boiler and an NER autocar. There's a Q6 barely started on, I just don't have time at the moment.

Thankyou for that. Certainly a lot I need to look at when planning it

Re: O Gauge LNER Pacifics
I would suggest membership of the Gauge O Guild for specialist advice.

I had OO in the garden for some years. Big radii are a good plan, I learned quickly to use over 6 feet in OO. There's stuff outdoors that an indoor operation never has to cope with: a breeze, wet rails, fine dust. It's a world of adventure...

Yes, I second the GOG membership.
Geoff Byman who is sometimes active in this parish also has a garden railway with experience of running Pacifics outside.

Anyone sampled the Hattons-Heljan A3 yet?

Not at the moment for me, I would need to do a lot of saving before I could buy 1 and with the impressive detail, build quality and power ths loco has, I would certainly buy at least 1.

Re: O Gauge LNER Pacifics
I am in the process of building a double track Garden extension to my O Gauge layout and I will be using a minimum Radius of 6 feet.
On the subject of the Hattons / Heljan A3 there have been many postings on the GOG and RmWeb relating to such Loco's being returned and replaced and Hattons are now quoting June 2020 for the arrival of the A4's . It does seem like Quality Control issues in China rather than Coronavirus.

Re: O Gauge LNER Pacifics
regarding the Hatton's A3's, there are some details which are wrong on them which is a shame as some including myself pointed these out when images were first shown. The most obvious being the smokebox, no Gresley pacific had rivets around the smokebox. Flying Scotsman today does have rivets, she is the one exception to the rule and only from the early 80's when a new smokebox was fitted. Which, btw has an incorrect profile for the original, IIRC the door ring and door itself are wrong although haven't looked that closely myself, just going by what other's who worked on her have pointed out. did they ever sought out the motion, the expansion link was awful and fitted incorrectly.. the list is pretty long but I think you get the picture... such a shame as the model could have been something special...the 'cost' argument doesn't hold water, it costs just as much to make it wrong and it does to do it right the first time.
